who we are

BARA was founded to promote inclusivity, diversity, and representation within both rugby league and union. The vision began with a focus on engaging South Asian communities in rugby, evolving from an exhibition team dedicated to promoting the sport to a more inclusive approach, ultimately leading to the formation of BARA.

Launched in Bradford in September 2004, BARA received the support of Bradford Council’s Sport & Leisure Services, The Rugby Football League, Sport England, and The Rugby Football Union. Since its inception, BARA has worked to break down barriers, foster community cohesion, and drive participation in rugby across diverse communities.
